How to Check When a Wix Domain Expires

Wix shows domain dates in two different places, and they don't mean the same thing. Getting that distinction right is most of what you need here.

Method 1: In your Wix account

1. Sign in to your Wix account.
2. Click the user panel in the top right → Account Settings.
3. Click Domains in the left menu.
4. Your domains are listed under Assigned Domains, with expiry and payment renewal dates.

To extend a registration: from Domains, click Extend next to the domain, choose a registration period, select a privacy option, click Continue, enter payment information and Submit Purchase.

Extensions are capped at 5 additional years for .com, .net and .org, and 3 years for other TLDs.

The date trap: "Upcoming payment" isn't expiry

Wix also shows domain dates under Premium Subscriptions, in an Upcoming payment column. That is the date of your next renewal payment — and Wix's own documentation notes it may differ from the expiration date.

Because Wix collects renewal payment about 30 days before expiry, the Upcoming payment date is typically a month earlier than the domain actually expires. Read it as expiry and you'll think you have less time than you do; worse, if auto-renew is off, the relationship between the two changes again.

Auto-renewal on Wix

Wix's documentation repeatedly tells users to make sure auto-renew is on, and references a Turn Auto Renew On button — specifically for TLDs that can't be renewed manually. The exact click path isn't spelled out in their help articles, so rather than invent steps: the setting lives on the domain's entry under Domains in Account Settings, and it's worth confirming against the current UI.

Some TLDs can't be manually extended at all — .de, .ch, .at, .nl, .fr and .be. For those, turning auto-renew on is the only way to keep the domain, which makes checking the setting non-optional.

The part most Wix users don't know

Wix's own Domain Life Cycle documentation contains a detail worth flagging clearly:

Wix resells domains from a third-party registrar which has the right to privately auction the domain within the last 10 days of the grace period.

So the grace period isn't a quiet 30-day cushion where nothing happens. In its final third, the domain may be auctioned by the registrar — and unlike ordinary expiry, that's not something you can reverse by paying a restoration fee. If a Wix domain lapses, the useful deadline is roughly 20 days, not 30.

Two related points: Wix is a reseller, not the registrar of record, so a WHOIS lookup on a Wix domain shows a third-party registrar rather than Wix. And the lifecycle after grace runs to a redemption period of about 30 days (chargeable, and Wix notes it can take up to 7 days to complete after paying), then pending delete, with the domain becoming publicly available in 5–10 days.

TLDs with no safety net

Wix documents a set of TLDs with no grace period at all — .at, .be, .ch, .co.at, .com.br, .de, .fr, .me, .mx, .nl, .or.at. .it gets only 10 days. And .me has neither grace nor redemption: it goes straight to publicly available.

For those, the expiry date is a hard deadline. There is no recovery window to fall back on.

Don't rely on a single dashboard

A payment date that isn't the expiry date, an auction window inside the grace period, and a set of TLDs with no recovery at all — that's a lot of nuance to hold in your head for something that matters this much.
